The Unitarian Universalist Church in Springfield is a welcoming and supportive community for people of all ages. We value the open mind and encourage each person to question and develop their own faith. We love a warm heart and a generous spirit. Together, we seek the creation of a more loving and just world, and aspire to live sustainably on the Earth.
We have been a voice for liberal religion for over 200 years. Our first meeting house was built on Parker Hill in 1805. We still maintain the cemetery on Parker Hill and hold a service there annually. In 1832, the congregation joined the Episcopalians in building a Union Church in the center of the growing town of Springfield. In 1870, the Universalists took sole possession as the Church of the Good Shepherd. We moved to our current location on Fairground Rd. in 1971, and added a lovely new Sanctuary in 1990. Our facility is fully accessible.
FEBRUARY SERVICES AND EVENTS
Sunday, February 5 at 10 am: The Power of Words -Our Annual Word Service Service Leader: Cathy Shidlovsky This has long been a popular service in this church, when several members speak about a word that has particular importance to them. This year our speakers will be Ellen Allman, Susan Lucia, Sharon Mueller, and Lynne Wolf.
After the Service: UU Occupiers Meet! Were you there at one of the protests for the 99 %? Do you support the idea of Occupy even if you
weren’t there? Part of Occupy is growing
our grass roots by having conversations.
All Unitarian Universalists who stood up, or wished they could have been
there, are invited to have a conversation after the service on Sunday, February
5. What were you supporting? What do you think Occupy should be doing
now? What next steps might we take?
Sunday, February 12 at 10 am: The Bonds of Family Service Leader: Rev. Eleanor Rice
To be fully seen by somebody, then, and be loved anyhow- this is a human offering that can border on miraculous. - Elizabeth Gilbert
Families come in all shapes and sizes. Whether by blood or by choice as elder or as younger, the bonds of bonds demand the love more fully and freely. Share the Plate: Saturday Lunches: For the Love of our neighbor, we take turns with other religious communities in providing a free meal on saturdays at the Family Center. The funds we raise will buy food for our meals.
Souper Sunday & Valentines - Following the service: this will be our last Souper Sunday! A monthly event we have all enjoyed, come and join us for hot soup and take that winter chill away. As always you can take home soup if you cannot stay. $4 will get you yummy soup and bread and of course the companionship and conversation are priceless! We will be making Valentines after the meal. Join us and show off your creativity!
1:00 pm - What Moves Us? A group exploring UU theology through history and how the themes are reflected in
our lives. We will be meeting twice a month on Sundays at 1:00 with a first

What do the many re-tellings of these tales, including irreverent parody, tell us about our relationship to our Judaic/Christian heritage as a society and UUs?
